He is home and he is safe

Kadante, Ke-ola and Joy…just getting home.
Thank you joy!
WOW! The last 24 hours have been unbelievable! After dozens of phone calls and texts to coordinate Ke-ola's release we finally got him home yesterday afternoon. He was exhausted and happy to be out of the shelter. We spent over an hour with Joy from I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue trying to introduce him to our two female dogs but all he wanted to do was mount them and they were not having it. We decide that due to his health, it was better not to push the introductions and separate them for a few days until he feels better. All three are sweet dogs so they'll have time to bond once he's better.

Kadante, my oldest son slept with him last night in the den, also known as Ke-ola's recovery suite. My younger son, Roland, slept with River and Sky (our two girl pups) upstairs. I checked on Ke-ola throughout the night as he snored soundly next to my son.

This is a video Kadante made of Ke-ola last night. He loves Kadante!

Thank you Dr. Wiatt!
This morning was our first vet appointment at Pet Hospital of Orange. Before we left Ke-ola started throwing up and didn't stop. Poor baby threw up several times at the Pet Hospital too. Dr. Wiatt, Gina and the entire staff were so kind and concerned for his health.

Thank you Gina!
The preliminary results of the blood work showed anemia, he also presented with an upper-respetory infection, a fever of 103 and parasites. Due to his sever state of emaciation it was decide to focus on, stoping his vomiting, getting ride of the "bad bugs" inside of him, and carefully feeding him to bring up his weight. We have another appointment in 10 days for a follow up and we will address his skin and paw condition then. The first thing is getting this baby out of the woods and strong again. Ke-ola had blood drawn, temperature taken, 4 different injections and he didn't make a sound. He just stood there patiently and without complaint. He's such a love!

Poor baby is just skin and bones.
Getting some love after his Dr. visit.
It has been crazy at my house with flus and fevers yet my whole family pulled together to help Ke-ola make it through the night. I'm very grateful to my boys and my husband because this boy is so sick, hurt and being our first rescue, that it will take our whole pack working together to get him back to health.

He will need follow-up care to monitor his weight, anemia and skin and paw. We know that with the help of Dr. Wiatt at the Pet Hospital in Orange along with the I.C.A.R.E. family and with the pledges of those that have been rooting, praying, sharing this boy on social media he is on the road to recovery and finding his perfect pack…but for now we are very grateful he's with us.

It takes a village and the village stepped up starting with Denise Carta through hundreds of concerned animal lovers to ICARE and ending with the un-named lucky people to adopt Ke-ola into their pack…but for now we are the lucky ones.

And now about his name...Ke-ola. After being approved to be a foster by I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue we were asked to please name our foster pup. Sounds like this should be easy but given that I.C.A.R.E. needed a unique name (one that hadn't been used by another rescue pup) and they have rescued over 800 dogs, we had to get creative. Ke-ola is Hawaiian and it means "Life" or "Life Force". We think this beautiful boy is the very essence of life force. His body is battered and bruised, life has not been easy, he has known hunger, pain and suffering but his life force endured and has carried him through to the beginning of the rest of his life.

Wishing you and your pack Peace, today and everyday. Thank you for visiting.

  1. He is home now. He's still quite ill but we can manage now. I'll post some pics tonight. Thank you so much for asking.
