Ke-ola is home and full of energy

Roland can't believe Ke-ola's
energy. Thank you Annie
I'm sorry for not posting an update yesterday. It was a big day for all of us and left little time for writing. Ke-ola came home last night. He is feeling so much better that it was difficult for him to stay in the Pet Hospital kennel. (I think our visit the previous day also contributed a bit to his exuberant energy.)  My husband Roland couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Ke-ola at the Pet Hospital. Ke-ola's entire butt wagged from side to side. I'm sure he knew that he was coming home with us. Pet Hospital visits with Ke-ola are always bittersweet. It's apparent how much the staff loves him and while they are happy he gets to go home I can see they will miss him.

Susan, Ke-ola's still wearing his sweater. It makes him feel cozy and reminds him of you. I know he can feel your hugs in the form of his beautiful blue sweater. Thank you again for your kindness and love, they are powerful medicine.

Ke-ola sat or stood in his crate all the way home. I asked him to lay down but he'd just start to wag his tail. Roland's childhood dog was a pit bull. He has a special place in his heart for the breed and a good understanding of the energy level. Before we were half way home Roland said, "This boy needs to walk and release some energy before we enter the house." He was correct. Ke-ola and Roland walked for 15-20 minutes before they came in and it helped so much. Ke-ola was still very excited and happy to be home but he was also much calmer. This boy will need his walks and some play time. He is such a good dog and really wants to please his people so we need to do our part to help him work out his energy in order to help him succeed.

Our All States K9 family/pack.
We LOVE you Sharron & Lamb!!!
Ke-ola will need training at the basic level and he wants to learn. Our two girls, Sky and River, do well with their commands at home but they both need work not to pull on leash. We adopted them as a "bonded pair" from the Dover Shelter and they were very sick, skinny and beaten up. I've had to be patient with Sky as she can be very timid. It took me a couple of weeks to get her over her fear of our little water fall. River is the one that always finds a way to push the boundaries. Our entire family will need to work together to help our three pups grow and learn to become one pack. This will prove to be a truly interesting adventure.

Ke-ola loves Lamb!
We're lucky to count Sharron and Lamb Lambert from All States K9 Detection & Dog Training as part of our family. They have worked with dogs in various forms of training from K9 detection for law enforcement to helping families learn to communicate with their pets. With over 40 years of experience training dogs, they are well known for training dogs that stumped other trainers. They were instrumental in helping us with Sky and River when we first adopted them and have provided love and support to our family/pack from the beginning. (You might recognize Lamb and Sharron from National Geographic's "Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Millan.) I'll do a more in-depth post about All States K9 Detection & Dog Training when Sharron and Lamb come back to help us introduce Sky, River and Ke-ola. For now enjoy this video of Ke-ola learning his first commands. Thank you Lamb for being so patient and loving with our boy.

We appreciate how patient and loving Lamb is with Ke-ola before he asks him to demonstrate some basic commands. Lamb gives Ke-ola lots of love before starting. Thank you Lamb and Sharron!
(Sorry for mess in the back. Still cleaning and clearing blankets and bedding)

All States K9 Detection & Dog Training is about giving back. They offer free socialization and obstacle training for shelter and rescue dogs and their families once a month. It's their way of saying thank you to those people that have been inspired to save a dog's life. Their next event is a Free Training Tips & Agility Class: Saturday, Feb. 15th 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 6625 Dale Street, Buena Park 90621. Check out there website or Facebook page for more information.

For those that have been adopting and rescuing for years, my hats off to you! It takes much more than a kind heart to foster a dog and commit to helping in his/her growth, healing and integration into a family/pack. You have my respect.

  1. Thank you so much, Aurora! It was touch and go there for awhile but I see he's going to make it! Woohoo! Has the vet said anything about his age or his mix? He's really long to be just Pittie.

    1. Yes, it is wonderful! I finally feel like we can celebrate his freedom without worry. The vet says Pit Bull Mix and he's around 2 years old. I don't see any giant breed in him. He is a very handsome boy. Once his hair grows back and he puts on his weight he'll be a head turner. Thanks for following Ke-ola's journey Cathy. It started for me on your page. And I am very grateful.
