Welcome to our new online site Shop Mana Keepers. Through Mana Keepers and Dewdrops of Inspiration Images & Musings we strive to bring the magic of nature back into everyday lives. Mother Nature gives us the opportunity to enrich our lives through connection, vitality and balance.

Shop Mana Keepers offers crystals, rocks, books, music, prints, cards, and art-work from local and international nature-loving artists. Nature has the power to rejuvenate, exhilarate, sooth, heal and inspire. It can stir the soul, elicit wonder, calm the mind of stress and ease tension from the body. Many of us in modern society don't have the occasion to enjoy the benefits of nature in our daily environment. Mana Keepers strives to give people everywhere an opportunity to bring a bit of the natural world into their everyday lives.
"I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright."
~Henry David Thoreau

When we loose our connection with Nature’s rhythms and cycles, we become disconnected from our bodies and emotions and get “stuck in our heads”. By engaging in the restorative energies of nature we help bring balance and harmony to our lives. That’s why for centuries artists, philosophers, scientists, healers and lovers have been inspired by Mother Nature?  "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." ~Albert Einstein

For those of us that live in cities or densely populated suburbs it may be difficult to find a space in nature to meditate in. Many of us don’t have the opportunity of enjoying the benefits of immersing ourselves in nature on a daily basis. As a result our bodies suffer as does our vitality and our creativity.
“The earth has music for those who listen.” ~William Shakespeare

Dewdrops of Inspiration Images & Musings
Even if we can’t move to a new location or drastically transform our lifestyles we can still effect positive change in our current environment by adding aspects of Mother Nature. Living plants, crystals, waterfalls and nature photographs can all help change stressed living spaces into a more harmonious and enriching environment.  "In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous." ~Aristotle

Tribute to Keith McNulty: Black Belt, Marine and Hero

The motto of the Marine Corps is Semper Fi, Latin for always faithful, until 1871 it was First to Fight.

My Hero in Green Shorts and Cowboy Boots

He walked into my life

with a smile
and a style
that was all his own.
3 and a half
wearing green short
and cowboy boots
and a smile
that lit up the room.
Even then I knew
that he was special
and would go on
to do great things.
I knew he was an angel
that was hiding
invisible wings.

I watched him grow

from boy to man
as he earned
his first black belt.
I watched him grow
from man to hero
when he traded in
his green shorts
and cowboy boots
for green cammies
and combat boots.

Before he left,

he said to me
“I’m doing this for you.
For all the people that I love
and for my country too”.
I’m doing this because I know
that freedom isn’t free.
I am willing to pay the price
for our country
and our liberty.”

We are

“The Land of the Free
Because of the Brave”…

Because of The Brave

guardian angles
that traded-in
their green shorts
and cowboy boots
for green cammies
and combat boots.

 “First to Fight”,

“Always Faithful” ,
“Semper Fi”

By Aurora Ferrer

About the poem: This poem was written for one of my Black Belt that is also a Marine that served and was wounded in action. I met Keith when he was 3 1/2 years old and he captured my heart. He was always first to smile and first to help out so it shouldn't have been a surprise when he decided to join the "First to Fight".

Keith stopped by my martial arts studio before he left for bootcamp. He said to me "ma'am I'm doing this for you, for your family, for my family and for my country". I can't say that I was happy to think that he might be putting himself in harms way but I was moved by his genuine sentiment and selfless attitude.

This poem was inspired by a letter he sent my family and I when he was in boot camp. (I have always teased him about his style choices the day we met, green shorts and cowboy boots.) The line in the letter reads, "Well, I guess I'm trading in my green shorts and cowboy boots for green cammies and combat boots".

A tribute to our Hero

Here is a clip of the live event. You'll see me reading the poem and my husband and son doing a martial arts flow for him. You'll also see us putting leis around his neck to welcome him home with Aloha. (Thank you Ilima Pumphrey of Island Fitness by Ilima for hand making the beautiful Bougainvillea leis and filling them with your Aloha) The gifts we choose for him were an official federal capital building medal of Lady Freedom. She sits atop our U.S. Capital watching over us and reminding us "e pluribus unum" or "out of many, one". He also received a large stone called a Desert Rose. (There is a beautiful legend about the Desert Rose told by the Native Americans of the Southwest. It goes like this, The desert rose was a tangible symbol of love. When a warrior died an honorable death in battle, The Great Spirit would let him come back while the village slept and   leave flowers made out of the desert sand for his loved ones)

We are grateful to our Kadan Martial Arts & PaaMano Eskrima families for coming out to show their support and their gratitude.

It is with humble gratitude that we thank the men and women in uniform. Thank you for your service!

Crack Pies LA by Lalaine V. Felipe Artist Highlight

A week ago today my Crack Pie was born. Lalaine birthed this culinary masterpiece seven days ago. Today I am enjoying the last small slice. I wanted to see how this deliciousness called Crack Pie would hold up over time. It is magnificent! Well I should go back to when my Crack Pie and I first met. It was on a Sunday at the incredible Arts Open House and Ke-ola Rehab Fundraiser. I was so busy that day that I was not able to stop and have a taste. It wasn't until Monday night that my family and I were all together that we were able to taste our beautiful heart shaped crack pie. We couldn't find the drizzle so I had my first slice plain.

The moment the creamy goodness of the cheesecake touched my tongue I was hooked. The flavor was rich and textured yet with a lightness that almost floated weightlessly down my throat. I am a cheesecake lover but this isn't just cheesecake...it is Crack Pie! I haven't tried another Cheesecake quite like this one. I was left so immersed in the experience of savoring every bite that between my family and I, we ate the ENTIRE CRACK PIE without one picture taken. I admire those with the self-restraint to take time to document their Crack Pie experience for posterity. I will need to order another and try again...

This is what I wrote on Lalaine's FB the first time I tried her creation, "I have no words to describe what I am experiencing as I let your Crack Pie melt in my mouth! I'll take a nice picture and post it tomorrow...right now I just want to relish this experience. I'm hooked!!! (And the picture never happened)

The next time I had a piece we had found the lemon drizzle. Wow! It became a new experience. I prefer to be sparing with my drizzle as the taste and texture of the Crack Pie itself is heaven to my taste buds. My husband on the other hand adds a layer of drizzle and loves it that way. I think that's another reason I enjoy the experience because the flavors and textures are so wonderfully unexpected, yet Lalaine honors our unique perspective and likes by giving us the power to choose our drizzle.

I'm not done yet, I haven't talked about the crust! I don't know how she makes it taste so light and crispy at the same time. It has a hint of sweetness yet provides a beautiful flavor balance for the airy-velvety goodness of the filling. It's like the perfect "gift wrap" on the best birthday present...It really is that good.

About Lalaine V. Felipe:

Lalaine was born in the Philippines and came to the states when she was three. She has a 9 year old daughter who is the love of her life. She is also a fitness instructor for 24 Hour Fitness and teaches Zumba and U-Jam Fitness.

About Crack Pies L.A.

Alexis Bellino of
TRHO Orange County
Lalaine is not a professionally trained baker, chef, or cook.  She learned how to cook at a very young age (5) and took her first Home Ec class in 7th grade.  For years she watched her aunts and her dad cook, but baking didn't come to her until 7th grade, and even then it was sporadic at best. Lalaine says,  "Even as an adult, she would bake the usual brownies and Betty Crocker cakes, etc.  Nothing extraordinary, nothing fancy.
Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface)

I started baking cheesecake almost 10 years ago because my ex-fiance loved cheesecake, and I thought, "What better birthday gift for him than to make him his favorite dessert."  So, I learned how to bake cheesecake.

In 2010, I actually stopped baking for a while.  I couldn't seem to bring myself to bake my cheesecake for a few years.  It wasn't until 2013 did I start baking again ...  but only for Christmas, making mini-mascarpone cheesecakes for family.

Joel Lambert (Manhunt)
2014 was different ... My cheesecakes took on a whole different look and a whole different life ... It was if God had breathed life in to them.  I don't know how else to describe it.  I've said many times, "I just bake ... He does everything else."

Geri Jewell (The Facts Of Life)
I never imagined that I'd ever be turning this in to a business.  But, my turning point came on December 31, 2014 when I brought a cheesecake to a dear friend of mine in L.A.  I'd never baked for her before, and this was the very first time she'd ever tasted anything that I'd made.  She took one bit, looked at me, said, "Oh my God this is soooo good!", then she said, "This is a business ... "  And the rest is history ... I believe that God works in His ways, and puts things in to place and in to work.
Bill Blair (Star Trek)Photo by Denise at {DL} Arts Photography

I've always loved and enjoyed watching people eat the food I've made.  It's always been like Christmas to me watching people enjoy.  It's like giving a gift and receiving one, but I feel almost guilty because sometimes I feel like I get more satisfaction out of the whole thing than the person eating.

Now, I get to deliver happiness to people one bite at a time."

Three Amazing Dogs Looking for Their Forever Families

Sadly over 1.2 million dogs are "put to sleep" in US shelters every year. Through shelter adoptions and rescue adoptions we hope to bring the numbers down to zero! You can help decrease these needless deaths by choosing to adopt your next pet. Those of us that have been adopting pets for years know that shelter and rescue animals can make incredible lifelong additions to any family.

Nick Saving Dog's Like Ke-ola Everyday
While we are in complete support of direct shelter adoptions it may not be right for everyone or every situation. For example, nervous first time adopters, adopters with small children, adopters with special needs or adopters with other animals already in their home it can be very helpful to adopt a dog that has already been rescued from the shelter. One of the advantages of adopting a rescued dog is that the dog's foster family can give you first hand feedback on the dog's personality, behavior, likes, dislikes, etc. Another advantage is having the opportunity to interact with the dog in a natural stress free environment so you can see the dog's real personality.

And there is an extra advantage for the three dogs being offered for adoption on this page...They have each been given special time and training by Nick Martinez with the help of his partner Kianah Pen. For more information about this gifted dog trainer read Nick Martinez Saving Dog's Like Ke-ola Everyday or Roland's Martial Flow Black Belt Alumni Class Feb 2015

Molly, Max and Guinness are full of love and loyalty and are looking for that special person or family to share it with. These three beauties are available for adoption.

Molly’s Story: Hello, my name is Molly and I am a 2 year old spayed female pit bull/boxer mix, who is looking for a place to call home. I get along with people of all ages and other dogs, but cats not so much. I do require a strong leader and lots of exercise to keep me satisfied. I enjoy running alongside a bike and can even run on a human treadmill. I love walks, hikes and most of all new adventures. I am very loving and eager to please my human.

I have been trained by a talented canine behaviorist at Doggy Hydeaway. And, it’s important that I continue a healthy and balance structure in my foster or forever home. As such, my behaviorist will facilitate my transition into my foster or adopted home, so that you can learn the ins and outs of my sunshine personality, plus learn all my commands.
